Often times we do see multivitamin supplements labeled as either for men or for women specifically. Manufacturers usually claim that each of these particular multivitamins contains more of certain ingredients for the particular gender and sometimes some additional ingredients. But are these ingredients strictly anticipated for men or for women?
In this article, we will go over as to why men can use women multivitamin supplements and why women shouldn’t be afraid to use men multivitamin supplements?
Women And Men Multivitamin Supplements Are Not That Different
So, usually, when we look at a men’s multivitamin and the corresponding women’s multivitamin they are not that different. They are in fact very, very similar.
There are 3 essential differences between these two. The first one – Lycopene, which is the additional beneficial substance that men’s supplement does have and women’s doesn’t. The second one – almost always regarding the amounts of any particular nutrients that these both supplements have, men’s supplement has more. The third one – women’s edition has Iron.
I know what you’re probably thinking. “Lycopene is something that is only beneficial to men, that’s why women’s multivitamin does not have it.” But although I do understand you’re thought process behind that one, this is not completely true.
Lycopene is also very, very beneficial for women. In fact, many of the studies that prove Lycopene to be an amazing substance were done on women. So, why it is only present in men’s supplement edition, for sure I do not know [R, R, R, R, R, R].
It may be connected with the fact that Lycopene is well known for its positive influence on prostate health. However, it has a very favorable influence on the respective lady parts as well. Thus, I’m not really sure, why Lycopene does not get included in supplements for women [R, R]. If by chance you happen to know, why this is, definitely drop a comment down below.
Moving on to the second difference – the women’s supplement is simply a less potent one. And although women typically need slightly less of nutrients than men, it is not significant enough for them to have a different set of Prime Daily Values. The only essential difference is that menstruating women also should supplement Iron [R].
Therefore, essentially not only men would be better off using the men’s edition of the supplement, but also women.
As regards to the third difference, it is too insignificant to make the women’s edition worth for women.
Therefore, if you fall into the category of menstruating women, you should rather supplement Iron separately.
There is, however, one thing that I want you to not misunderstand. Centrum Silver Men 50 Plus and Centrum Silver Women 50 Plus are not good supplements. I just used them as an example here, because many, many supplements out there follow the same kind of structure and share these 3 differences we talked about.

Why The Graduation Then?
When you buy a supplement that is supposedly made exactly for you, then it in a way seems that the manufacturer is more responsive to your needs. And that also brings with it the illusion that the supplement will probably help you more.
But as I said, in general women will be better off using supplements that are labeled for men.
Are There Any Exceptions?
I myself haven’t heard of a beneficial substance found in vitamin supplements that could be used by one gender but would be harmful to the other.
However, such a possibility that there might be one does exist. But the chance of it being a part of a multivitamin supplement is even far more insignificant.

The Take-Away Message
There are no differences between the vitamins and minerals diversity wise found in both men and women supplements.
Men supplements usually contain additional substances that are also very beneficial to women, which women equivalents does not contain. Furthermore, men supplements usually will provide nutrients in bigger amounts.
Therefore, most of the time any particular men supplement will be more beneficial not only for men but also for women. But in a case that a women’s equivalent of the supplement provides more nutrients (and does not have Iron), it will also be more beneficial to men.
