Essence Chlorophylls or E140 are the green pigments naturally found in chloroplasts of algae and all plants, and they are responsible for photosynthesis. Furthermore, it’s a fairly unstable dye; meaning, it tends to fade away easily.

Sourcing  Theoretically, it can be sourced from any plant or algae. However, for commercial use, it’s sourced from alfalfa, nettles, lucerne, spinach, or grass.
Manufacturing The natural dye is obtained by solvent extraction, and then, the solvent gets removed. For solvents, methyl ethyl ketone, methanol, ethanol, dichloromethane, acetone, propan-2-ol, hexane, and carbon dioxide can be used.
