Essence Potassium Benzoate or E212 is a synthetic preservative (white, odorless powder that can’t be found naturally) used for battling yeast, bacteria, and mold typically used in all kinds of low PH (below 4.5) foods. It can be present in beauty and skin products as well.

Sourcing  Commercially, it is typically created out of Potassium Hydroxide.
Manufacturing The sourcing ingredient is mixed together with an aromatic Benzoic Acid Hydrocarbon solution (created in the toluene oxidation process). This is done in an aqueous solution (highly concentrated preferably) where the Potassium Sorbate is precipitated.
Application Preservative (synthetic, water-soluble).
Acceptable Daily Intake Recommended level is 5 milligrams for every kilogram of body weight.
Side Effects It can cause severe allergic reactions and be extremely detrimental to asthmatics. Cancer and ADHD are also among potential dangers. It can be very detrimental if consumed together with Ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
