Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Review – All 5 Dissected

Overview  |  Probiotic Strains  |  Additional Beneficial Substances  |  Additives  |  Conclusions  |

In this Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Review, we will go into detail as regards to all 5 probiotic supplements of Nature Made.

We’ll start off by summarizing the most important claims made by the manufacturer for all of them. After which, we’ll go into deep to examine the probiotic strains, their amounts, additional beneficial substances, as well as additives.

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Review – The Overview

When we’re talking about Nature Made Digestive Probiotics there are a complete number of 5 supplements we have to examine.

The first of the pack is Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength. In essence, it is their most diverse and abundant probiotic supplement having no dairy and being 100% vegetarian. [R]

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Review

The second is Digestive Probiotics Advanced Dual Action. This is their second most potent probiotic employing one Bifidobacteria and one Lactobacillus strain at the same time also being 100% vegetarian and gluten/dairy-free.

The third of the pack is the adult gummy supplement known as Digestive Probiotics Ultra-Strength Gummies. This is their third most plentiful supplement that offers only one strain of probiotics while also containing incredible amounts of different additives.

As the fourth, we have Digestive Probiotics Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12. This is a gummy probiotic supplement that encompasses a fusion of a probiotic strain, potent amounts of vitamin B12, and loads of additives.

And lastly, we have the Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics. This is their least impressive probiotic supplement with only 1 billion CFU and nothing else but a bunch of additives.

Overall the description pages of any respective supplement are quite abundant in terms of the information offering more insight into supplement facts, product details, supplement interactions, dosage, quality pledge, and even FAQs.

However, the core message stays the same all throughout the description pages – either of these supplements will improve the health of your gut and digestive system, as well as deal with pretty much any deviations from the norm (like gas, bloating, constipation, abdominal discomfort, etc.).

While superficially all of this sounds great and some might probably be thinking that it doesn’t really matter which of these you choose… It does, however, matter quite a bit.

And, in truth, there is only one viable probiotic of the 5, all of which by the way are claimed to be of superb quality and awesome for improving your well-being but are not.

Can you guess which one?

Probiotic Strains Are A Downward Spiral

There are no two Nature Made Digestive Probiotics that are the same. All of them are very different.

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strenght Supplement FactsThe Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength, as the name suggests, offers 12 different Probiotic Strains – seven different Lactobacilli Strains and five different Bifidobacteria Strains.

The seven Lactobacilli Strains come in total amounts of 27 billion CFU (Colony-Forming Unit), whereas the five Bifidobacteria Strains compose a complete number of 3 billion CFU. [R] [R]

Thus, with a single capsule of this supplement, you will be getting 30 billion CFU. Which is quite a lot. And thus, surely will result in some of those gut and digestive health benefits that they claim.

Worth noting that these probiotics do require refrigeration or must at least be stored in a cool dry place at or below 77°F or 25°C.

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Advanced Dual Action Supplement FactsThe Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Advanced Dual Action, again, as the name suggests, is all about the dual action – all about two different strains. These strains are Bifidobacterium Lactis (SD-5474) and Lactobacillus Plantarum (299v).

Of these, the Bifidobacteria comes in amounts of 5 billion CFU, whereas the Lactobacillus is present in 10 billion CFU.

Thus, with every two capsules, which is the serving size, they offer a total number of 15 billion probiotics. This is pretty solid.

Plus, for these, there are no refrigeration necessary.

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Ultra-Strength Gummies Supplement FactsNext, we have the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Ultra-Strength Gummies. These are weaker than any of the two previous ones having only one probiotic strain.

This is the strain of Bacillus Coagulans present in amounts of 8 billion CFU.

Another worth noting aspect is the fact that these, as the name suggests, are gummies, in which the serving of two will get you that 8 billion CFU.

However, keep in mind that these probiotics must be refrigerated or at least stored in a cool, dry place at or below 75°F or 23°C.

Nature Made Dual Action Probiotic Plus Energy B12 Supplement FactsThe fourth of the pack is the Nature Made Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12. The dual action of this one resides in the fact that it offers one strain of probiotics and vitamin B12 (on which we’ll get into the chapter of Additional Beneficial Substances).

The one strain that it offers is actually the same one that the Ultra-Strength Gummies provides – Bacillus Coagulans. The difference here, however, is that there’s only 4 billion CFU per serving.

While it’s not evident from the name but Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12 is a gummy vitamin. Additionally, it must be noted that these probiotics must be refrigerated or at least stored in a cool, dry place at or below 75°F or 23°C.

Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics Supplement FactsLastly, the Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics are neither capsules nor gummies – they’re tablets.

The supplement offers a single strain – Lactobacillus Acidophilus.

It’s also not particularly abundant because there is only 1 billion CFU per two tablets (serving size).

Overall, it’s definitely the least potent probiotics of all of the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics brand.

Similarly, as it was with Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength, it must be either refrigerated or at least stored in a cool dry place at or below 77°F or 25°C.

While there are many different Probiotic strains across the supplements and all of these can have a range of various benefits, and thus, some are more effective than others, there’s a general rule I tend and I do believe is easy to follow. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

The more various species any given probiotics have the better. Ideally, you’d want more than one but there’s no cap as to how many you should get, the more diverse the better. [R] [R] [R] [R]

As for the total population of probiotic bacteria, the best practices suggest 10-20 billion twice daily (total amount of 20-40 billion a day). But either way, there are also other approaches to this that suggest more would be better. [R] [R]

Probiotics Will Help Most If There Are Multiple Strains Present In Amounts Of 20-40 Billion CFU

Thus, these 10-20 billion twice daily could be considered the ideal minimum you should go for.

Judging all of the 5 Nature Made Digestive Probiotics against these guidelines there’s kind of a downward spiral tendency-thing evident.

Thus, in essence, the further we went through the supplements the worse they became.

First, we started with Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength, which offers 12 strains and 30 billion CFU daily. Which is pretty ideal.

Then we continued with Advanced Dual Action that had 2 strains and 15 billion CFU daily. Which falls slightly below the lower margin of 20 billion but that can easily be remedied by taking a 1.5 or double serving. 2 strains are quite on the scarce side but it can definitely work.

Then we had the Ultra-Strength Gummies with 1 strain and 8 billion CFU daily. One strain is not enough and 8 billion is quite a margin for at least 20 billion. Unless you’re into having 2.5-3 servings of this daily (5-6 gummies).

After that, we had Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12 and Acidophilus Probiotics, which offered only 1 strain with 4 billion CFU daily and 1 strain with 1 billion CFU daily, respectively.

While both of these definitely will improve your gut and digestive health to some extent, this will not be sufficient especially if your gut micro-flora is seriously inflamed with all the processed food (including fast-food) you might be consuming regularly.

Nature Made Digestive Probiotics – Generally, No Additions

Many probiotics contain stuff like Inulin, which essentially improves and embraces all the positive effects of taking a probiotic supplement. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

On that same note, I wouldn’t regard the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics brand as something that is abundant in additional beneficial substances. In truth, they’re very scarce.

Namely, there’s only one supplement that contains any. That is the Nature Made Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12.

Salmon Is A Great Natural Source Of Vitamin B12The additional beneficial substance to that blend is actually a vitamin. And as the name suggests it’s the vitamin B12.

The amounts of it are very potent, so it will definitely account for some benefit. However, the vitamin form of Cyanocobalamin is not the most effective one for vitamin B12 supplementation. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

Thus, if something like a Methylcobalamin or Adenosylcobalamin were used the effect would be more significant. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

But as I said the Cyanocobalamin, which is a synthetic form of vitamin B12, has also been proven to be very beneficial in curing deficiencies. Thus, it’s definitely better to have it than to go without. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

On that same note, I do not see vitamin B12 as something that a Probiotics supplement must have. Surely, it’s a nice addition, however, probiotics are for probiotics.

Either way, regarding the vitamin B12 if that is of concern to you it will be far better to rather go with something that is known to be among the very best out there.

Additives – Everything From Harmless To A Complete Mess

Additives are the other ingredients, which are not primarily responsible for any benefits of the supplement. However, they are absolutely crucial as without them 99% of the time it’s not possible to deliver the beneficial ingredients in an easy to consume form – be it a capsule, tablet, powder or any other of the many available forms.

When it comes to the additives of Nature Made Digestive Probiotics they are very diverse across the supplements, to say the least.

There’s everything from completely harmless to harmful with the capital “H”, which are, to be more exact, some of the most harmful additives in existence.

In essence, the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength is the only supplement within which all of the additives – Cellulose Gel, Hypromellose, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide – are completely harmless. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

As for the rest, there’s not that bright of a picture.

The Digestive Probiotics Advanced Dual Action has 6 different additives – Potato Starch, Cellulose Gel, Hypromellose, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, and Color Added. Namely, the ones that Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength has plus the additional Potato Starch and Added Color.

Within these, the added coloring is of concern.

There are only two types of color – Artificial and Natural. And the difference is huge. So, which one is this?

Well, as with anything, if it’s not specified, you should assume the worst-case scenario as this is, in essence, the only reason why manufacturers refrain from specifying these things.

Artificial Coloring Is Something To Preferably Avoid In Everything That You ConsumeI mean just “Color Added” certainly looks much better than “Artificial Color Added”. Generally, because people are becoming more and more aware of the health risks of Artificial Color. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

Which are Cancer. There are other. But primarily Cancer. Numerous studies have shown this, so there’s really no reason to try dispute this. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

As for the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Ultra-Strength Gummies and Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12, the health risks go far beyond just Artificial Coloring and Cancer.

Both of these are filled with sugar as well as the worst and most harmful form of it – the Glucose Syrup.

Some may be unfamiliar with this one or so may it seem but I bet you’ve probably heard of it if I’d call it in its real name. High Fructose Corn Syrup. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

Glucose Syrup is the alternative name to hide this devastating substance. Thus, consuming this substance you may find yourself gaining weight, becoming obese, encountering stuff like cancer, liver damage, diabetes, heart disease. The “Good” Stuff. And this by no means is exhaustive. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

I mean I do find it kind of paradoxical…

You want to improve your gut and digestive health?

Guess what? Processed sugar (including the one in the supplements) and Glucose Syrup weakens the good bacteria of the gut and strengthens the bad bacteria. [R] [R] [R]

So, not only can these two supplements “gift” you cancer but they will, in fact, probably either not make a difference for your digestive and gut health or – the more likely outcome – actually worsen it (overall and taken into totality).

And this is even without considering all the devastating effects that will come upon your head because of the sugar amounts in the supplement.

But, guess what?

The Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Ultra-Strength Gummies does not stop there. And Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics is guilty of this too.

Sugar Is Extremely Bad To Have In Any Supplement But Especially Probiotic Supplements

Both of them employ a substance known as Maltodextrin.

Being one of the worst forms of hidden sugars not only will it contribute to the devastating effects of Glucose Syrup but also it has a pack of additional ones too.

These include sudden headache, difficulty breathing, itching, rash, bloating, diarrhea, weakened immune system, as well as there are other dangers with the Maltodextrin. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

And at the end of the day, this overlook of harmful additives should not be considered exhaustive as there’s other undesirable stuff there that I didn’t touch upon. [R] [R] [R] [R] [R]

The only thing I can say for sure is that the only probiotic of Nature Made that does not contain additives with potentially hazardous effects to your health, and thus, will actually improve your health is the Multi-Strain 12 Ultra Strenght.

Thus, any of the rest you shouldn’t even shortlist.

Final Thoughts On Nature Made Digestive Probiotics

While Nature Made offers 5 different flashy Probiotic supplements, only one of them will be truly beneficial.

The rest are for sure to worsen your overall health and well-being in the long run even if it’s not immediately noticeable or evident.

The additives that the four supplements – Advanced Dual Action, Ultra Strenght Gummies, Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12, and Acidophilus Probiotics – employ will make sure of that.

Thus, the only of their supplements that do not employ bad additives, furthermore, has 12 different strains and 30 billion CFU for daily consumption is the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength. It is the only real option if you’re in for a Nature Made probiotic.

On that same note, while that supplement is definitely better than something like Nature’s Bounty Probiotic 10, there still are other better options out there both in terms of price and quality they bring to the table. To that end, the Live Conscious Pro-45 (full review) is arguably my favorite one.

Above all, I hope this Nature Made Digestive Probiotics review on all five Digestive Probiotics supplements helped you find the information you were looking for.

  1. What an informative and a helpful review on all 5 probiotic supplements – Nature Made Advanced Dual Action, Ultra Strenght Gummies, Dual Action Probiotic + Energy B12, Acidophilus Probiotics, and the Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength. I reckon you are giving the most credibility to the 5th one, is it that the others are not effective? Even these probiotics seem very scarce, I can remember when one of these were recommended by a doctor to my parents as supplements for us then, we were unable to get it, which made us get a different one. Knowing fully well that the Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength is only of their supplements that do not employ bad additives, furthermore, has 12 different strains and 30 billion CFU for daily consumption. I will love to go for it by all means I have even also informed my parents about it again. So where can I get it easily and can others still be a good option to go for to some extent in the absence of Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength?

I’m really delighted that you found the review helpful. And thank you for the kind words, they are sincerely appreciated.

As for the questions, yes, others I would deem quite ineffective. I mean they can still provide some benefit but your health can definitely benefit from more. You can easily get it from Amazon.
Are others still a good option? Well, to some extent definitely but if the Digestive Probiotics Multi-Strain 12 Ultra-Strength is not available it would be best to go with a completely different brand. I use Now Foods Probiotic-10 25 Billion.

  4. I have equally observed that amongst all the five products of Nature made Probiotics, only one is fair to be taken as a supplement, whereas the rest of them are not good for anything but rather bad for the overall health of an individual. I feel excited each time I see bad products being reviewed coz the review helps me to identify unhealthy products easily. There is absolutely no gain in purchasing a product that will harm you in the future all in the name of buying supplements and all these companies should be mindful of the unhealthy products they push into the market coz there are people who don’t know anything about supplements. They just buy anything called supplements and consume them.

    • Hey, Kenechi!

I can only agree. There is absolutely no gain in purchasing a product that will harm you. It just doesn’t make sense.
And they truly should be mindful but for most profits are what they are ultimately only interested in.

Here at Supplement Alliance, we hope to change that. For everyone to always be well-informed about any supplement of their interest. <3

  5. I have been thinking of using supplements as a way of making my self healthier and mostly trying to avoid Jordan medicine which as you somewhat mentioned if used for a long time they do have side effects on the user. When I came to this article while looking and trying to learn more on nature made supplements a question for me arose that I hope you can help with answering. Do you know if any of these probiotics have any side-effects after using for a period of time and if they have what is the remedy to counter the side effects?

    Reply
    • Hey, Charles!

Yes, the potential side-effects I did describe in the chapter on additives.
As for the active ingredients (the probiotics themselves), they shouldn’t affect you negatively. As for the ones by additives, at this point in time, I’m not really aware of it. A bunch of Phytonutrients can probably mitigate possible side effects. Also, Resveratrol in ridiculously huge amounts could save you from many of the potential side effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup.

But all this would only be to negate the physical signs of there being a problem (the symptoms). Meaning you would essentially just pop painkillers to not feel the pain of a broken bone, yet you wouldn’t treat the fracture to let it heal and make the pain dissipate over time completely.

Thus, at the end of the day, it’s always best to not consume harmful stuff in the first place than consume it intentionally and then seeking a remedy or a cure for it. If nothing else convinces you that this is the right approach, do keep in mind that treating a disease is much, much more difficult and expensive than preventing it altogether.

Just think for example of a person diagnosed with cancer. It would have been infinite times easier to prevent it than to cure it if that is even possible for the particular case.

      Stay healthy, my friend!
Cheers, and have a Great One!

  6. Hello there, this your review is one of the unbiased and truthful ones I have come across and I will probably ever be reading about the Nature Made Digestive Probiotics. You really have given us all the needed information we would need to know about the supplement, I have nothing to add. I also highly value the fact that you have taken the time to provide insights on all 5 products, not just the most popular one. Concerning that this probably is one of the most mindful reviews I’ve ever read. Thank you for this pleasant experience in providing us with such a nice review.

  7. I would be really interested to see a price comparison between these 5 products. If the Multi-Strain 12 is the only one worth taking, is it a lot more costly? I have to agree about the multi-strain being a far better product. Both by doctor recommendation and by personal experience, I find that the wider the variety of strains in a probiotic the better off I am with energy and painless digestion.

    • Hey, Slowyarn!

Thank you for the suggestion, I will look into it.
And thank you for sharing your experience, I appreciate it.

As for the prices, sure that Multi-Strain 12 is the more expensive option of its counterparts. However, in terms of the value it provides, I believe it’s the most favourable option. More value for the price than any other probiotic supplement of the Nature Made brand.

  11. My partner and I are huge fans of the probiotics we receive from sources like kombucha. We actually have a lady that lives locally and makes her own that we buy often at our Tuesday farmer’s markets. The Nature Made brand is a super recognizable one, and your review is very thorough. The one thing I’d like to know more about is the term CFU. You state clearly that it means “Colony Forming Units,” but I’d love to learn more about what that actually means. Thanks!

  12. There are so many different products out there that claim to be healthy and all-natural, but some of those have hidden ingredients that most people probably wouldn’t want to put into their bodies if they only knew. I’m glad I came across this article. The information you laid out about high fructose corn syrup and artificial coloring agents is seriously eye-opening. I’ll be sure to share this post with a heck of a lot of folks on my social media. I know some folks who would benefit so much from reading this and then following through with the advice.
