Genacol Collagen Review – #1 Sounds Like Hoax But Is It?

In this Genacol Collagen review, we will do some in-depth exploring not only on the the Genacol Original Formula supplement but also we will look into the core formulation itself.

Thus, this article is about diving into their promotional materials, claims, every ingredient (active and inactive ones), as well as success rates, and assess the global success rate. Additionally, while this one will focus on the capsule version of the product, we’ll also have a look at the liquid option.

Genacol Collagen Review – Initial Thoughts & Overview

According to the manufacturer, Genacol Collagen “is the #1 Collagen brand for joint health.” Per their words, “Genacol Original Formula is the first Genacol product and has been on the market since 2000. It contains only AminoLock Collagen as the active ingredient, which helps to regenerate cartilage and its efficacy is scientifically proven by three clinical studies to reduce joint pain associated with osteoarthritis” [R, R].

Genacol Collagen ReviewWhile I’m typically not fond of “I am the #1” claims, it actually may be justified in this particular case. Whereas as for the rest of this, it sounds really nice. The supplement contains a unique formulation which they’ve done some research on to prove its efficacy. They’ve been around for quite some time.

Overall, the description page of the supplement reminds me of those by supplements like Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate or NeoCell Marine Collagen. It’s very collected and poised; awesome readability. No overbearing or overwhelming marketing or anything similar along those lines like we’ve seen with supplements like Organixx Collagen or Taut Collagen.

As for the promised benefits, they’re not fooling around. They don’t even mention the very basic ones one can associate with any Collagen supplement like improvements to hair, skin, and nail health. Instead, they solely focus on their rather unique aspect of joint health (and are incredibly transparent about it all with clear references to studies and everything) [R, R, R, R].

According to them, Genacol will “give your body the tools it needs to regenerate the collagen in your joints, protects against cartilage wear and tear, reduce joint pain associated with osteoarthritis.” So, the end-result is pretty much like one for a Turmeric Curcumin supplement, only it’s Collagen [R].

Additionally, the supplement is certified Non-GMO and Gluten-Free, and is of Patent Pending Technology material.

I guess it’s easy to agree that it sounds pretty nice. That’s at least as far as promotional materials go.

As I See It, AminoLock Collagen, The Core Of Genacol, Is The Real Deal

So, why do I believe that Genacol Collagen calling itself the #1 Collagen brand for joint health is justified?

As far as I’m aware, no other Collagen supplement has provided such clear wins in clinical study environment to people with joint pain. So, while this may not be a label of #1 declared by some journal or website, I feel it’s legit enough that they persist on that. I mean, given how much I’ve researched Collagen supplements, I’m pretty confident there’s no other Collagen like that. To illustrate, we don’t find any clinical research on such highly popular supplements like Skinny Fit Super Youth or NeoCell Super Collagen + C.

So, what is Genacol Original Formula about?

The supplement offers nothing else but that bovine-sourced AminoLock® Collagen which is what Genacol’s signature Collagen is called. We’re getting 1,200 milligrams per 3 capsules or a single serving. Which is exactly the amount that those three clinical trials used. Which was exactly what was effective [RRR].

To me, the fascinating thing about this is that, as far as I can tell, Genacol rivals and probably even exceeds the capability of many Collagen powders like Doctor’s Best Collagen or Further Food Collagen. And that’s despite coming in such relatively low amounts. That said, while I wouldn’t pick it over any Collagen powder in existence, I would definitely prefer it when it comes to any tablet or capsule versions.

On that note, I believe the actual benefits of the Genacol Collagen reach far beyond what the manufacturer narrowly focuses on. The way I see it, there’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t bring also all of the typical Collagen gains. The emphasis is on joint health due to the unique properties of the thing. But everything else is still be there.

Youthlike skin. Higher skin elasticity. Stronger hair. More powerful nails and teeth. Less wrinkles. Less cellulite. Fewer bedsores. Improved bone density. Better muscle health and functioning. Better metabolism. Enhanced gut health. And just overall, powerful anti-aging benefits among a few other significant gains [RRRRR].

So, I feel to suggest that this Collagen of AminoLock® is decent would be an understatement.

The Additives In This One Are Great; Controversial A Bit But Great

Health Direct AminoSculpt Collagen Original and It Works CollagenWorks are just some of very many supplements that struggle with this next aspect. The aspect of additives (also referred to as the other ingredients).

Additives are the ingredients that typically get added to supplement to help mold the beneficial ingredients into capsules, tablets, or whatever other easy to consume form. Other times these get added to ensure certain kinds of quality like color or taste of that capsule, tablet, or whatever. And not always are these inherently harmless to our well-being [RRR, R, RRRRRRRRRR, RRRR].

In that regard, when it comes to the Genacol Collagen, it holds no concerns like that. Granted, one of its two additives (Gelatin and Vegetable Magnesium Stearate) is a highly contraversial one (the other one a beneficial one). However, proper, scientific, research-based look on that shows that there is no cause for worry [RRRRRRRRR].

In fact, knowledgeful examination of every single curveball thrown at Magnesium Stearate, as the minority of high-profile health professionals and doctors note, reveals that it’s actually one of the safest additives there is. To add to that, it’s actually an additive that babies naturally consume through mother’s milk more than we ever could through supplements (Stearic Acid is what they actually consume; it is the part of the Magnesium Stearate that is widely, wrongly coined as harmful) [R, RRRRR].

So, in essence, Genacol’s all about being beneficial and doing it in a way that’s as harmless as possible. All to make the potential of any side-effects to the absolute minimum.

Genacol Collagen Liquid Resembles The Capsule Version, However, Differences Do Exist

There are at least some Collagen brands that along with their flagship supplements also a respective liquid version like we’ve seen with NeoCell Liquid. Genacol Collagen is also one of those. Overall, its liquid version is an extremely similar one.

At least as far as beneficial ingredients go, it’s the exact same thing. It offers 1,200 milligrams of AminoLock Collagen. Again, these are the exact same amounts that have been proven highly beneficial in three of those high-quality studies [RRR].

Genacol Collagen Liquid ReviewAs for the additives, it’s a different story entirely. A story I’m not so fond over.

The Genacol Collagen liquid uses Purified Water, Erythritol, Citric Acid, Green Apple Flavour, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, and Stevia.

While there may be other issues, a definite one (and arguably biggest one), as I see it, is the Potassium Sorbate part.

It’s an additive primarily used to increase shelf life and ensure that the product stays fresh as long as possible. While opposite (and rather contradictory) opinions exist, I believe the truth is that this is something best to avoid as much as possible [RRRRRRRRRR].

The main reason for this is that it’s said to be the potential cause for skin allergies, eye irritation, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, burning and itchy rashes, nutrient deficiencies, and a plethora of other allergic reactions. Moreover, some studies have shown that it can cause DNA damage and even lead to cancer [RRRRRRRRRR].

Hence, I think it’s fair to say that even though this is not something that is guaranteed for each and every individual (we all are different), the danger is definitely there. And, as I see it, there’s really no reason to expose ourselves to such ingredients given that there are other supplements that provide the exact same beneficial stuff without this kind of baggage (like the Genacol Collagen capsule version).

As Genacol Collagen Reviews Report, A Very, Very Well-Received Supplement

Looking at the customer reviews and global success rates may be completely unnecessary given that there are at least 3 high-quality studies that prove Genacol Collagen’s efficacy. Still, for the sake of comprehensiveness, let’s have a look at that as well.

Much like many other supplements like the Ancient Nutrition Multi Collagen Protein or the Code Age Multi Collagen, also this one has an on-page review section. That said, it doesn’t have any feedback posted there; it’s a completely empty section.

And that seems rather odd given that the Genacol Collagen has been around for 20 years, yet they don’t have a single customer review on their page. I mean, the most probable explanation is likely that they’ve only recently added the thing or maybe they’ve reset it. Either way, as it is currently, the section is not much help.

That said, their US website (by the way, the same promotional information) does have a couple of ratings there. A total of 20. Of these, 18 are 5-star, one is 4-star, and the last one is 3-star. Which still doesn’t quite paint an accurate picture (also, it can potentially be biased) [R].

Looking at other sellers and retailers, it brings us into a much broader perspective. In total, I managed to find 197 Genacol Collagen reviews, of which only 12 were negative, hence, 185 positive ones. Whereas this means that this product has been a truly well-received one. I mean, above 93.9% for a global success rate is a truly high number (plus, the fact that people are typically far more prone to reporting negative experiences than positive ones).

Still, I reckon some may not see it that way. Some may wonder why it’s not even higher? Wasn’t it approved in three what are arguably the highest standard studies there is?

Well, all things considered, I think that’s very high. I mean, we have to realize that there are many more reasons why people tend to not be happy with the purchase beyond just the product not working. I mean, sure, there will absolutely be people for whom this will not work (simply doesn’t work, allergic reactions, doesn’t use regularly). I mean, have you seen any product ever made that doesn’t get bad reviews? There’s no such thing.

Apart from that, it’s not rare to see people complaining about something related to shipping. Others complain about how big/small a container is regardless of the fact that it still contains a fixed amount of servings. Others dislike smell, or taste, or capsule size. I mean, there sometimes are the most ridiculous and completely unrelated things (like wrong product); nothing that actually influences the performance of the supplement. So, let us just be aware of that.

One thing, however, that I would recommend to be particularly careful about is ordering from Amazon. As far as I can tell, based on the customer reviews, it seems that they might not be selling the actual stuff there (or might not be doing that all the time). I’ve seen similar emerging trend with other Collagen supplements (like those from Vital Proteins), as well as MCT Oils and the Turmeric Curcumin ones.

A Very Capable Capsule Collagen; I Would Prefer It Over Other Capsule Stuff

As I noted earlier in the article, to me, Genacol Collagen seems like something that is capable of rivaling Collagen powders which typically bring far more raw Hydrolyzed Collagen to the table. And that’s truly something.

I love the fact that this one has some solid science behind it. The ingredients for the capsule version are all and throughout helpful. And the remarkably high global success rate kind of speaks for itself.

That said, personally, I wouldn’t prefer it over supplements like the Live Conscious (LiveWell) Collagen Peptides (full review with a summary). However, if it had to be a capsule or a tablet version of Collagen, this would arguably be my #1 choice. That said, I would also give a good thought to the Physician’s Choice Collagen (full review).

But as far as the supplement of this review, I would make darn sure I don’t get it from Amazon because as far as I can tell, they might be selling fakes there.

Above all, I hope this Genacol Collagen review of the original version of the supplement helped you find the information you were looking for. What do you think of the claim for being the #1 Collagen for joint health? Is it justified? Or is it marketing hype more than anything else? Let me know below.

  1. Hello, Matiss,

this is such a great post you’ve created for the Genacol Collagen. I’ve got to say that I’ve seen quite a lot of bloggers but never have I seen anyone of them put out true research-quality content which seems to pass a lot of messages through. I must say you are really talented in making quality posts, and I look forward to frequent blogging of yours.

Thanks for sharing, have a great day.

  2. The most intriguing, detailed review I have seen for the day. I find many people trying to write on supplements but they’re beyond salesy in their approach. Ultimately, they’ve kind of written a review but it’s actually just a regurgitation of what promotional materials say. They are all about selling and zero about giving their candid findings and opinion. But you did an awesome job giving every detail of what you think about this very thing. I really much appreciate your efforts and I look forward to sharing this article.

  3. Hi Matiss, this was, indeed, a very detailed and informative review. I very much enjoyed how you broke it all down. As far as I can tell, you have truly paid attention to every little detail there was about this product. I didn’t expect it to have been around for so long. And I really liked that there are actual studies on it. This, no doubt, is not the treatment most supplements get. Great review.

  5. I have taken glucosamine condroitin (GC) for years for joint health, but it doesn’t seem to help as much as I had hoped it would. I have been hesitant to try collagen because of something I saw years ago, but you said that this one is made from animals? That, to me is a better alternative to the scare tactics used when I was growing up.

Do you know what the differences between glucosamine condroitin and the Genacol Collagen? By price comparison, they seem to be a bit less expensive than the GC I am currently taking.

Also, do you know if I could seamlessly switch to the Genacol Collagen or would I need to wean off of the current supplement?

I would be very interested in finding even more out about this product. Thank you, and my joints may thank you, too!

    • Hey, Karin!

Yes, generally speaking, Collagen is created from animals. Ideally, grass-fed, pasture-raised cows or chickens. Eggshell membrane is another great source. It can also be sourced from fish and a few other stuff.

As for the differences, they are just a different means of achieving the same primary goal – improved joint health. The way I see it, Glucosamine Chondroitin is more about cartilage specifically. Whereas this Genacol Collagen is more about helping joints overall. Also, each has different other benefits associated with either.

That said, as I see it, there’s a good chance that if the GC hasn’t helped you that significantly, there may be a different aspect of your joints that needs addressing. Which maybe Genacol Collagen can. Another supplement group awesome for joints are Turmeric Curcumin ones. I have a bunch of reviews on them here on this website. Naturewise Curcumin (review) is a solid one. Definitely not the greatest but has helped a ton of people.

What you asked about switching, I’d say to ideally do them both for a while, and then you can probably let go of that GC. Or not. As far as I know, they should have a complementary effect to one another. Hence, you could actually do them both. Or you could limit yourself to just the one that works best for you – that Glucosamine Chondroitin of yours, Genacol Collagen, or Turmeric Curcumin. There is no one-size-fits-all.

I hope that helps. And do let me know how it goes if you get a chance.

Cheers, and have a Great One!

  6. Hello Matiss, thanks for this informative review you’ve provided for us. To me, that’s fascinating to find that Genacol Collagen has been around for 20 years. That’s a lot. I translate it as they being passionate all and throughout about what they are doing. And so, I think the supplement must be a good one (and it is as you’ve shown). Kudos to you good health knight for sharing. :)

Yeah, 20 years is no joke. I think that’s a fair point. And yeah, I too really like this one. As you can tell, I believe it’s very solid.

Other than that, I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for letting me know. :)

  7. I normally am skeptical of products like these, especially if they’re promising “fast and efficient results”, but Genacol Collagen seems to be the real deal. I mean, they’ve been around close to 20 years, so they must be doing something right! Ultimately it’s up to the person if he/she wants to try it, but I’d give it a go, if I can!

    • Hey, OGG!

I totally feel you. Generally speaking “fast and efficient results” are usually a lie.

I would say that the fact they’ve been around for 20 years does not necessarily mean its good. But there’s definitely a much bigger chance for them to be than something that’s been around for just two, or three, or fewer years.

If you get the chance, do let me know how it goes.

Cheers, and have a Great One!

  8. I really like when a review fills in all the blanks.  Giving all the ingredients whether they are good or bad. I think people need to decide for themselves.

I do find it impressive that Genacol Collagen has been around for 20 years.  That generally means they must be doing something right.  I am with you about liking it more in a capsule vs a liquid.  Great job and I think anyone checking out this product is going to find your review amazing.

I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it. And that it was an insightful one.

Agreed, generally speaking, there’s definitely a bigger chance that a company is worthwhile if they’ve been around for some time. That said, I feel there is a danger there. Mainly because great marketing can also do so much. So, while it definitely is not the case here, it can be.

Cheers, and have a Great One!
